You don't have to use that magnifying glass any more to see the text and icons in your GNOME desktop environment. You can enlarge the fonts and icons on all the parts of the GNOME environment by following the tips below:

To make panels bigger:

 

  1. Right-click the panel you want to enlarge.
  2. Select Properties from the menu that appears.
  3. Click the General tab.

  4. Use the arrow buttons next to the Size field to increase the panel's number of pixels. The changes will apply immediately.
  5. Click Close when you reach the desired size.

To increase the overall font size:

 

  1. From the System menu, select Personal Settings.
  2. Double-click the Fonts icon.
  3. Click the button that represents the font you want to change.

  4. Change the font size or font appearance.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click any other font setting buttons to change their respective appearances.
  7. Click Close to close the Font Preferences dialog.

To increase icon size:

 

  1. Double-click a desktop icon to enter the File Manager, OR from the Programs menu, select Accessories -> File Manager.
  2. Select Edit -> Preferences.
  3. Click the Views tab.

  4. Under Icon View Defaults, select a larger zoom percentage.
  5. The adjustment will apply immediately.
  6. Click Close to keep the setting.

To change the overall theme to one with bigger fonts:

 

  1. From the System menu, select Personal Settings.
  2. Double-click the Theme icon.

  3. Click to select a theme that includes "Large Print" in the name.
  4. Click the Apply Font button to apply the larger font.
  5. Click Close.
