If you often create one type of document, you can use the GNOME Novell Linux Desktop to make it easier to quickly create a document based on your template. Follow the steps below to install your template and begin creating documents based on it. - Create a document that you plan to use as a template. Make sure the body of the document is blank and ready to be used.
- Save the document to the /home/username/Templates folder. Note: If you have trouble finding this folder, open a Nautilus Browser window (right-click the Computer icon on your desktop and select Browse Folder), and select Go --> Templates. Save your template to your desktop and drag it into this folder.

- To use the template, right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Create Document, OR in a Nautilus Browser window select File --> Create Document. You will see a list of all the templates saved in your Templates folder. Click one of these templates.

- An icon will appear ready to be renamed. Rename the file icon to the new name of your document.

- Double-click the file icon to open it and begin creating a document based on your template.
The template system described here is different from the template system OpenOffice.org natively uses. To correctly save a template in OpenOffice.org and use all of the template features, from the OpenOffice.org main menu select File --> Template --> Save. Then to open your template, open an OpenOffice.org application and select File --> New --> Templates and Documents.
