If you're using a desktop with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 installed, you might want ultimate performance, but with a laptop you want to make sure to save battery life. Knowing where to change the power settings in SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 will help you make sure your computer runs its best.

Accessing Power Settings:

  1. Click the Computer button in the lower left-hand corner of your desktop.
  2. Click Control Center.
  3. From the System group, select Power Management.

Changing Power Settings:

  1. Access the Power Settings window using the steps above.
  2. From the first tab, select the time after which you want your monitor to hibernate.
  3. Use the second slide control to choose a time after which you want your entire computer to hibernate.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Choose a sleep type for when the computer is inactive.
  6. Choose either do nothing or hibernate.
  7. Under the Notification area, choose the icons you want to see at the right side of your bottom panel to help remind you of computer power settings.

Changing Advanced Power Settings:

  1. From the General tab of the Power Settings dialog, click the System Settings button.
  2. Enter the root password to access YaST.
  3. Edit or choose a predefined scheme. OR
  4. Click Edit Schemes and then Add to define your own Power Setting scheme.
